Samsung Washing Machine Adwash

Options
Wondering if anyone can advise.

I bought a Samsung Adwash washing machine in March 2018 from Currys, it has a 5 year warranty.

It has begun leaking near the Adwash door - not near any seals or anything like that - there's 2 plastic parts between the Adwash door and the glass door and it's between these 2 plastic parts where the leak is.

I've phoned Samsung and they've said it's out of warranty and have given me a number for their repair agent.  I expect there will be a call out charge and then I'll have to pay for the repair.

However, looking online it seems that there are lots of people with problems specifically with the Adwash doors leaking so it would appear that these models have a bit of a problem but Samsung don't seem to want to know, judging by a lot of the comments.

My question is, do I just suck it up and pay whatever is necessary, or do I have any rights? I'm outside of the warranty and about a week over the 6 year consumer rights period.  These machines aren't exactly cheap and maybe should have lasted a bit longer.

Also, am I right asking this direct to Samsung, or should I have contacted Currys first?

Your first port of call should always be with the retailer and not the manufacturer - unless any manufacturer's warranty or guarantee gives you better protection than the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (legislation.gov.uk)

There is no "6 year consumer rights period", but there is a general statutory limitation period which effectively means that you can't sue anybody (ie enforce any consumer or warranty rights) more than 6 years after purchase.

If you bought from Currys in March 2018 you may or may not be just inside that 6 years period.

Even if you are inside, the onus of proof would be on you to prove that the wm/c had an inherent fault when you bought it.  And even if you could do that you would only be entitled to a partial refund to reflect the 6 years use you have had from the machine.

Put simply - I don't think you'll get anywhere but who knows...

Why don't you get the cost of the repair first and then consider your options? They will just replace the door: a very quick and simple job.
You have no warranty from the manufacturer, so your only option is the SCC process against DSG. Good luck with that on a 6 year old machine. The residual value is probably less than the cost of the repair.
