Argos are really tight with returns for games, and state that they are excluded from thier standard returns. I took back a SEALED game, with receipt, and even had thier original warhouse sticker on it and the manager had to be sweettalked before i could swap it for something else...and that as bought on Saturday! ...sorry!
  • Your best bet if you can't return it is ebay it as Nearly new only used once, and buy him another one with whatever that game makes. Or part exchange it at Game or somewhere like that

What sort of game was it? console/pc or a toy type thing? if its a toy then the chances of returning are good, if its a computer/console game then chances are slim.

Just come up with a good reason for not wanting it like he got 2 of them or already has one. not sutable for his age whatever. shops tend to be a little more forgiving at this time of year when it comes to returns. but opened pc/console games are usually tough to return.

It is a driving type game that runs on batterys and you plug into the t.v..
  • You should have no problems returning that then

I'd argue that the current price is immaterial. If i paid £30 for it then i should be refunded £30.
    Check their returns policy carefully.
Ask to speak to a manager.
Ask for head office address to write and complain.
Generally ask as many questions and make as much fuss as possible.

EDIT: Checked the Argos website and found this
"If you've had the product for up to 1 year, we'll repair the product or, if that's not possible, give you a replacement or, if that's not possible, a refund."
I'd return to the shop, quoting that line and ask where it says they can keep half your money. That line is actually for faulty goods but then I'd argue if i had a faulty item and returned it, i'd get a full refund. However, by returning a perfectly functioning product that they can sell again, they're refunding less. It makes no sense.
I suspect the person who refunded you wasn't pulling a fast one - they probably didn't know.

If you had a receipt they should refund at the price you paid, without a receipt they usually offer a refund at the current sale price.

  • There was nothing wrong with the goods and they had been opened. If someone went to buy one and was sold your preowned one at the full price do you think they would be happy? Therefore Argos are not going to be able to sell at the same price. I would be happy with 50 ish % for my own error in choosing it in the first place.

wendy24g if the customer is able to show he price they paid then they are due the price they paid as a refund. used or not it doesn't matter. some places have restocking fees but Argos doesn't.

I would return to the store hopefully you have your receipt still.
