Leaking Water Cylinder

Hi,
I currently have a Hercal 3 Ranger Water cylinder (net capacity 114) that has a leak that appears to be coming from the base of the cylinder or behind the actual foam casing. The leak has started to get worse over the past week and I was wondering if someone could provide me with advice on the following:
1) Approximately how much would a plumber charge to replace this cylinder (I am guessing that a replacement will be in order) ?
2) Is this a big job? I sense that the due to the current connections there might be a requirement to undertake a bleed of the current central heating system.
3) Does anyone know of a good, reliable plumber in the Colchester area ?
Thanks in advance
Matt

Hi
Start at the top and check all the connections .Cut some of the foam away to make sure you can see all the way round the connection.
You might find it's not the cylinder itself .

Thanks for that advice - much appreciated. If it turns out that I am unable to find a leak from one of the connections, will a replacement turn out to be an expensive job ?
Thanks

Hi... what would you consider expensive?

Hi,
Well, that is a difficult question to answer. Whatever way you look at it, if it is the Cylinder it will require replacing - I can niot leave it as it is already causing a damp patch on my kitchen cieling. I assume that the cost would be the Cylinder (if like for like), pipework. I assume that this could be completed in a day, so a days rate for a decent plumber.
I would guess - £400 - £500 ?
Do you want to enlighten/shock me ?
Cheers

Hi
£400 or less.:D
Depends on access as to whether it's a comfortable day or not.
Have a look round for the leak first. (torch and mirror for the back) Also track down the valve that isolates the cylinder.Usually a red handled gate valve. Follow the very lowest pipe connection up until you find it. Hopefully it's not in the roof.Use it and make sure it turns off, then you can turn off the hot water if you have a sudden need of it.Saves a panic later.;)

i would say 300-400 quid ish.
to replace like for like. but its more than likely to be a connection problem somewhere rather than the actual cylinder casing leaking.Get some gorm.0 -
How old is it?
Be careful...if it is old, it could be corroded at the connector, you don't want to disturb the fitting. That small patch on the ceiling could turn into something slightly bigger!!!

I have water which turns the bath blue and eats the pipes and know that I had a leaking tank as it had eaten all the way through with the water acidity and had to be replaced - be careful cutting away the foam = may make things worse - get a plumber.Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0
