So we are fine to turn up together but uncle keeps coming up with excuses and cancelling. Latest he has said is that it is only costume jewellery so no point us getting it. This has been ongoing a number of years.0

Then the three of you, acting together, decide what you are going to do. As already suggested, tell him that you (pl) don't care it is only costume jewellery, you would like it for its sentimental value. Ask if one of you can go and take photos to share with the others.
