My wife and I received winter fuel payments, are we liable for 2023/24 income tax on these?

I applied in May for Pension Credit and after waiting, phoning, being told I would receive a phone call within 10days, I phoned again 31/7 to be told that the department are still dealing with applications from September 2023!!
With the sudden rush for many to apply so that they are able to receive winter payments, the department will no doubt be in chaos, how can we get our pension credits sorted before this coming winter?0 -
Doubt much that you can do, you could see if your local MP can help, but I expect they are also inundated with requests of the same nature.pammyholl said:I applied in May for Pension Credit and after waiting, phoning, being told I would receive a phone call within 10days, I phoned again 31/7 to be told that the department are still dealing with applications from September 2023!!

There are very long (horrendously long) backlogs on pension credit claims at the moment.0

Update. I have just checked my bank online and found nearly £2,000 in it courtesy of the DWP PC.Murphybear said:I applied in July 2023. I haven’t had a decision
. I’m looking forward to getting the award letter, they seem to be about 2 weeks behind. So if anyone is not eligible for PC but gets Attendance Allowance then it’s worth applying for PC/applying again as the parameters change. I don’t know the technical reason, hopefully others will know.2 -
That's brilliant news 👏0
