Thanks Cornucopia. It's my bank Lloyds with alert that it was £16 and more than usual. It wasn't at all. It was £15 and has been since July. I didn't expect Lloyds system to be so wonky !1

Just announced increase of £5 to £174.50pa from 1st April 2025. However they increased my DD in December to £15 from £13.25pm...So if the 'license year' is April 24 to March 25 I'll have paid 8 x x£13.25 + 4 x £15 = £166 by 31 March 25, of which £86.50 is a prepayment.for the April 25-March 26 year. That means 6 months down the line when the bill is £174.50..I'll pay £14.54pm for 12 months ??...0

From then on you’ll pay around £14.12 a month."https://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/faqs/FAQ173 might be of interest.

Now the 1st April 2025 bill is quoted as £174.50 ,my scheduled payments mean I'll pay £176.50..mainly because they increased my DD in December '24, to £15. so at some stage they'll 'owe me' £2.. All the payments I've quoted are for the 12 months Oct to Sept..ie 6 in advance , 6 in arrears..

The scheme is complicated, though, especially when alternative start dates and price rises are considered. I expect the payments will sort themselves out at the annual review point.0 -
Thanks for posting this question. I found the answer I needed. I agree with you that the TVlicencing site could do more to make this clear and that their site makes it hard for one to contact them effectively. It ought to be easy to understand how one is being billed without going to FAQs.1
