Fined & points for driving with no insurance

Options
Hi ,
November last year I asked my mum to have me added to her car insurance ( this was due to the fact my mum needed treatment op and her vehicle would be the most practical for transport for her ) I have my own insured vehicle that at the time I didn’t have a policy that I could drive other cars.
She confirmed I was insured on her car until  March this year 2024.
I was pulled over in the vehicle end of December 23 for nothing other than being a male driving a car that was as far as the police could see only insured to be driven by a female.
It was explained i would be given a fine and points in the post, I thought no problem of this as my mum had confirmed there was paper work saying I could drive the vehicle the police explained I would just need to produced this at a station and be no issues. My partner was in the car who is able to drive other vehicles on her policy so she was able to take the car home.
The paperwork has since been checked and the policy is a previous years 22/23. This means I was not insured to drive the vehicle . I am contesting this due to mitigating circumstances, and have also sent a copy of the previous policy that my mum has gotten mixed up with .
I would never have used the car with no insurance as I have my own and although wouldn’t have been ideal for transportation of my mum at the time it could have been used if we had any reason to believe I couldn’t use her car.
The appeal has to now go to court I’m unsure if it’s a guilty or not guilty plea I take .
Secondly on a different topic does anyone know if your ability to drive other cars can change throughout your policy . As when I 1st took my policy out it says (not available ) I changed my job and updated my insurance about this in Jan and it now says my ability to drive other cars is included .

As far as I am aware, driving without insurance is an absolute offence - you either are insured or you are not and therefore can't use any excuse as mitigation. You are likely to get a higher fine if this goes to court - Personally I would plead guilty and take the hit. You might also want to be careful about involving your mum here - I believe also it is an offence to allow someone to drive your car without insurance.

As we major on private parking tickets here, PePiPoo will be your best bet for police tickets. If you do receive a ticket, register there but please note that a hotmail address won't work - try using a throwaway gmail account instead if you do have trouble registering and post a new thread; here's your link:
Have a read through some of the other threads and use the NiP Wizard there before you post your own to get the hang of what information they need from you in your opening post - but as a minimum you will need to post redacted photos/scans of all correspondence you've received from the police (both sides, if appropriate) as they need to see all the small print.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

PePiPoo has been a little "flaky" over the last week or so.

I would consider ALSO posting on: https://www.ftla.uk/
