Hi
I had an old payday loan taken out in my name in 2016 and it was never paid, i discovered this in Dec 2020 and paid it, think through a collection agency. The Payday Uk no longer trade so cannot get them to sort this.
It is only reported on Experian, and as a 6 then settled, never a default, it went to a 6 in march 2017, i have spoke with Experian and they say it will stay there until Dec 2026....it is the only bad thing on my credit file, i have never had missed or late payments.
It going to impact me getting a mortgage in the coming months, any tips on anything i can do regards getting it update so falls off or removed completely?

When you encountered the payday loan fraud, was it reported to Action Fraud? Why was it paid if not your debt?
The collection agency who bought the debt should be able to set the default to when they bought it at the very leastSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
