Digital radios?

  • Somewhat sceptically I bought an indoor DAB aerial from eBay for £7.99, for use with a Denon receiver.

Works really well, has a magnetic base so it's stuck on the side of a radiator (makes a difference to reception?). Indoor reception for mobiles is next-to-nothing and the TV reception from a loft aerial is flaky so this thing working at all was a pleasant surprise.

Installing an external aerial DAB vertical dipole antenna at rooftop level to see all around won't be cheap.
It would be worth seeing if a nondirectional one would work at lower level, perhaps on a gate post, gazebo etc, then in the loft, before getting a man in

Not sure digital is worth it.
Now it's getting to the unfunny newer programs, doesn't pick up local radio. Just a lot more stations with advertising.
I just liked something funny to listen to.

I was laughing at Flaneurs which I misread as the radio stuck to the radio  :D

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

My local radio station GHR is only available on DAB since they shut down all the MW transmitters.

So now I can no longer listen in my car as it doesn't have a DAB radio, just FM and MW.

The solution is simply to buy a new car.

Note: May not be able to play cassettes.

You've just made me realise that my dab radio also has fm......so I may be able to tune in to our local station.
No ads, small news time not made a drama of, just music.
Now all I have to do is find out how to access it. Probably not too difficult but going to be buckets load of stations to search.

I've thought about that but a bit expensive just to listen to GHR

GHR is still available on FM here in the north west midlands - amusingly in our antique 2007 Peugeot it reports back as 'Kerrang'!!

Are you looking for something to listen to inside or outside the house? If inside and you have reasonable broadband then I'd suggest buying a smart speaker rather than a radio, since buying some Echo devices in last year's Black Friday sale I rarely bother to turn on any of the radios I already owned.
Me too - they also featured in the spring sale but at one Echo Pop and two Dots as well as devices bought for other family members I think I am well served.

4 months on, and I cannot believe what a difference they have made to my life in countless ways. The most tangible being staying motivated to exercise, purely because I don't have to interrupt a routine to switch stations when something I don't like (like advertising content) comes on. No touching the dial for me, I just tell Alexa what I want!

The 2 DAB radios I have are now redundant....time to pack them away and donate to a chazzer.
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.
