Car in son's name advantages or disadvantages
My 22 year old son has been driving our second car for the last two years under his own insurance etc.
Essentially, I've given the car to him now as we never use it but was wondering whether the car is better to be kept in my name or get it changed to his name.
Basically, wondering what the pros and cons are for each.
Would his insurance be cheaper or more expensive if in his name?
Would having a car in his name help improve his credit rating for example?
Or anything else I haven't thought of?
Thanks

I assume you mean putting the V5 in his name to make him the registered keeper?
It likely won’t make any difference
I am the main insured driver on a vehicle registered to my other half.
With a lot of finance and purchasing options nowadays the registered keeper is often the finance company.
Main thing is to answer if asked, truthfully.
I would if I was you as the pros from your perspective is not having to deal with tax/mot/insurance obligations and any “infractions” for a vehicle to which you dont have full control over

Car ownership isn't noted on credit histories. Not sure what notice if any insurance companies take of it. It's just the tax. , MOT, and then making sure it is insured which comes down to you. Switch it to your son. Then you won't get any mail for fines etc addressed to you.Life in the slow lane1
