Top up insulation over vermiculite

I want to top up the insulation in my loft to the recommended 270mm but currently have 70mm vermiculite between the joists, is it best to roll fibre glass insulation on top of the existing insulation (between the joists) or to roll it out cross the joists? I don’t use the loft for storage.

I’m aware of asbestos risk and not disturbing etc and am getting a sample tested for peace of mind, so just looking for advice on best way to top up. Thanks

if the existing stuff is sound and in good condition, then no reason to remove it really. when you lay the new suff on top it will no doubt be up level with the top of the joist. if you laying boards over the top of it, don't screw or nail the boards down. you may end up pushing the ceilings down underneath. so just leave the boards loose and they will settle on their own accord.
