Probate stamp duty refund

I’ve recently seen adverts on my social media for a ‘refund’ of stamp duty if you bought a property that was probate. There are various companies online claiming to help you find out if you’re eligible and will help you claim when I did a quick Google search but they have mixed reviews. Is this a scam or might we actually have a claim? And if we do, who is the official/a reputable agency to go through (who won’t take all the proceeds in fees etc). thanks

The right to a refund does not apply to people buying a probate property to live in or to rent out.

There is a relief for a limited number of property trading companies who buy probate properties for onwards sale without spending much doing them up.  https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/stamp-duty-land-tax-manual/sdltm21040

If you are a trading company and qualify, then the solicitor who acted for the company on the purchase should be able to help with the refund application.
