Home insurance quotes for this year seem to have gone crazy!

There is another often asked question when getting a quote " do you have key operated locks on each window" we do on the downstairs UPvc windows, but we never lock it with a key for safety reason in case of fire.
So when they ask that question do they take it for granted that you have windows locked all the time, as they certainly don't make that explicitly clear.0 -
dunstonh said:I started looking at a Direct Line quote form which has made me ask - does my Info only call with LV count as a quote? so do I have to answer yes to that question - Have you made a claim in the last 5 years? Or is it only if I've proceeded and made an actual claim. Importantly I guess, will my aborted claim count against me for the next 5 years in terms of increasing the price, even though I didn't actully pursue a claim? When getting quotes and applying elsewhere you have made one claim with a value of zero.
BTW I should have confirmed, on Direct Line quote form I did acknowledge 1 claim, value £0 in August 2023. You were spot on.

We do lock ours but the keys are left in the lock1 -
I thought I'd updated progress on my renewal Buildings & Contents with LV, but must have lost it. Anyway, Direct Line came in at £302 against £500, with an acknowledged single claim of zero value. Direct Line confirmed they only offer "new for old", and their algorithm estimated I would need £72,000 cover, which I went for, as LV had upped mine to £75,000 in 2023.This was a direct comparison, and without the discount LV give us for having 2 cars insured with them as well. I called LV, thinking if they offered a price much closer to my current £250 I'd stay with them, and if need be look again in a few months when my car insurance comes up for renewal. They have clearly made a corporate decision to increase premiums across the board, and suffer ensuing losses in volume business. The take it or leave it best reduction I was offered was to a derisory £480. The operator is clearly spending her day having similar conversations, so I confirmed that I would not be renewing, and likely moving the car insurance too in time.I'm much more considering claims satisfaction now, and I'd noted that Direct Line show up quite well in this respect, so I'll now maybe just go with them, and see what happens when it comes to my car.0

For some reason or other Direct line won't insure my postcode in N ireland.0

Well my Tesco Bank renewal quote is here up from £239 last year to £564 this year, that works out at about 130% increase, so will have to run the quotes through a comparison site again, think the cheapest I get is £440.0

Last year I moved from Direct Line to LV as DL was about £120 more expensive. This year LV has increased by 10%, £400 to £440.0

Well it certainly helps to call the insurer in my case Tesco Bank, rather than just accept the renewal quote. During the call I was asked what was the lowest quote I got from other insurers, which is £402, Tesco then came back with a price of £393 a drop from £559.
I did increase the voluntary excess on both buildings and contents to £350
However correcting the number of adults that live in the house from three to two did raise the price to £412.
They are sending me the policy documents to have a look over, and will probably go with Tesco again as the cover is better.
But a drop from £559 to £412 was definitely worth a phone call. My motto is " If you don't ask you don't get"

Our renewal has just been received and gone from £300 to £444 per year. Have shopped around and can get it cheaper. However reluctant to change because we are with RSA badged as Nationwide BS and found them brilliant when we had a sub claim years ago.0
