The design of the brackets mean they will work a bit like a crowbar making the job of removing a brick or two even easier. It would probably be better to attach the brackets to longish lengths of (vertical) wood and fasten the wood to the wall at points lower down. Make sure everything is sturdy because the risk of serious injury is considerable if any part fails.0 -
Would it be better to hang from the rafters?Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.1

No, Fix a door jam bar between the rafters.

Get yourself
2 x lengths of 41x21x2.5 mm unistrut
4 x 4 hole flat tee plates
16 x unistrut nuts and bolts. Taking care that the bolts will go through holes in exercise bar.
Fit the two lengths of unistrut vertically onto the wall, make sure to use robust washers to secure, then fit tee pieces and attach exercise bar to them. You could fit rubber standoff washers between tee pieces and bar to act as shock absorber's.
Might seem like a expense but will be cheaper than damaging the wall.0 -
I hope there's enough head clearance when you pull up - I wouldn't fancy hitting my head on the garage ceiling!0
