    I just plastered over it.

  • I was actually researching the same thing recently and found this:

    10sqm ceiling costs £1050+VAT

Alternatively you can skim or drywall over it instead.

You can skim it which will be cheaper, but any time you want to drill into it afterwards follow HSE guidance (assuming there is asbestos in the artex - which you can get tested if you want)

Or you could use something like this - https://www.ecosolutions.co.uk/homestrip-xtex/
I've got a narrow band of artex to remove from the walls in a bedroom here. Ceiling is already in a dump bag outside. Stripping a full wall could use a lot of stripper and get expensive real quick. I have heard a steam wallpaper stripper can work... Skimming is OK as long as the artex is well adhered to the plaster underneath. If it isn't, you may well find the skim+artex falling off at some point.

I used a steam stripper and that worked fine and suppressed any dust.

You can get it tested for asbestos and they'll give you a certificate with the results. Might change the costs of removing it.
