Theatre tickets

I find phoning the box office of the theatre and booking directly is usually much cheaper than using the internet agencies which charge big fees on top of the ticket price. I just saved £14 on 4 tickets at the Lyric by doing that. Why are the booking fees so high? Esp if you do it on the internet and so there isn't a person involved - should be cheaper, surely?
