SORNing a Car
Options
Hi,
i have sent the V62 and now waiting for the V5 to arrive. I need the V5 to pay for the road tax and residential parking, however i got told that the V5 may take up to 4 weeks to arrive so i am wondering whether i need to SORN the car until then as before i bought it was SORNed for 3 months.
Can anyone please help me? ill really appreciate as i am new to the car world and it is my first car.

You can do the SORN online as long as you have the "New Keeper Supplement" part of the old V5.But do remember, if the car is not insured then you must SORN it anyway.< I may as well do the pedant's part - it's vehicle tax, not road tax, it hasn't been road tax for many a year now

I may be wrong, but AIUI you need the V5C to SORN it.0

A new keeper can use the "New Keeper Supplement" part of the old V5.0

You can definitely SORN using the V5C/2 New Keeper slip...
https://sorn.service.gov.uk/
and click
"I don't have the vehicle tax reminder, just the registration certificate or new keeper supplement"
...but if the OP has had to use a V62 to get a V5C, then I presume they do not have that. In which case, waiting for the V5C is the only answer. And, yes, that may take ages if they have to contact the previous keeper and ask them if they have an objection to the transfer.
SORN, like tax, does not transfer with a keeper change.0 -
Remember, if it is SORN'd it must be parked on private land, not on the road or a public car park.(If it isn't SORN'd, it must be taxed and insured)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Didn’t think SORN was anything to do with insurance just that you had to keep the car off the road?0

...and since 1999 if it's not taxed, it must be SORNed.0 -
So if it’s not taxed and on a SORN you don’t have to insure it ?0
