By Miles Insurance

As recommended by MSE (rightly so in my 'then' opinion!) as a low mileage driver, I took out 'By miles' insurance on 25th March 2021 at a basic premium of £193.00 plus 3.5p per mile.
In just 4 months 'price per mile' increased to 14p and then 18p per mile, equivalent, (I think) to a 500% increase in that 4 months), making their policy one of the most expensive on the market!
I did complain and was told it was the underwriters. Those same underwriters now intend on my renewal on 25th March to increase the per mile price from 18p to 45p per mile, an effective increase of 1000% in three years! Needless to say I WILL NOT be renewing with 'By Miles' and have made other arrangements!
Let's face it, just on these figures alone, anyone would be better than By Miles!
I'd be very interested to hear MSE's measured view on my experience?
Sincerely,
Michael Bourne

I hadn’t realised they could change the per mile rate during the term of the insurance. Makes it a huge risk taking out a policy as you’re at their mercy.

    Due to renew early April.
This will be the sixth year.
I can’t get a good price for my car, over 50, carer for friend, 12 years NCB, one at fault claim ( made no difference).
    Peugeot 5008, 1.6 bluehdi.
The best quote 21 days before renewal was £1400.

    Year 1 £170, 3.2p a mile.
    Year 2 £214 4.5p a mile
    Year 3 £233 5.0p a mile
    Year 4 £245 5.4p a mile
    Year 5 £105 9.3p a mile
    Year 6 £110 17 p a mile.

If I do 3000 miles this year it’s still only £620 a year.
I do low mileage, if I need to do a long drive to see family it’s a 350 mile round trip the same day.
So 150 mile max charge per day.
With these long runs I will only pay around £450 max for the year.
Not Impressed with the huge jump per mile, but can live with it, compared to standard policy.

No they don’t, not in the 5 years I’ve been with them.
Must be a miss type, or possibly a change of car mid term ?.
