On the Guardian news website, articles that are over a certain age (lets say... 6 months), get a big yellow banner at the top, so that if you follow a link to one, you know it might be out of date.
Something similar on the forum would be very useful. Doesn't have to stop anyting or block anything - just put an obvious flag onto posts over a certain age.

Forum I moderate on has a message that comes up when someone tries to post on a old thread. That this is a old thread.
Sadly makes no difference. People still post on, in some cases 5 year old threads asking if the OP got a result. Of course just as here. A vast majority of posts never get a outcome from the original poster.Life in the slow lane0
