Carrier charges for items bought abroad.

Can anyone tell me, in very simple terms, why items bought from Temu don't have a carrier fee attached to them but ones from AliExpress do??  I've had loads of low cost items from Temu delivered by Royal Mail and other carriers without charge, but the low cost item from AliExpress seems to attract a RM handling charge.

I suspect it relates to the postage stamp used by the merchant

What are the values of the parcels? (ie total of items inside inc P&P)
Were you charged VAT/Duty by RM in either case?

I've seen packages from China where they have simply lied about the value of the contents and got away with it.  AliExpress possibly won't/don't do that.

On Aliexpress it is all paid up front now so no charges on arrival. I placed an order yesterday , you see the price, and the postage then when you check out they add all the additional charges before you pay.

These companies often pack the consignments into pallet sized boxes, ship them in bulk via air-freight to a uk freight agents warehouse(there are a load around Heathrow), customs clear them in bulk and pay all the fees to hmrc and then pass them to Royal Mail for the final delivery leg.

This means RM are not involved in the customs process and so no handling fee.
