Everything comes under YBS (Yorkshire Building Society) now I think

YBS has killed off all of the brands it inherited during the financial crisis.

I had an old Chelsea passbook account when YBS took over. YBS converted the account and sent me a YBS passbook and annual statements but when I tried to close the account last year they refused because they had no proof of my ID, or copy of my signature or any record of me opening the account. They even suggested I might be confusing them with Yorkshire Bank, even after I told them I had rung the phone number in the passbook!
It took several phone calls and a letter of complaint to get any movement.
So they are off my Christmas card list.  :D

Chelsea used to be really good for savings but this was back before the credit crunch. We still have a 10 year mortgage with them with about 2 years left to go but really there is nothing else you would use them for now and even with the mortgage there is no online access to it and if we wanted to make overpayments it’s a really long winded convoluted process.
