Help please - false accident allegation

The police have already done something by sending the OP a notice of intended prosecution. It would be a very silly thing to do to ignore that.m0bov said:I doubt the police would do anything, they always say its a civil matter.1 -
They have to allege at least one to justify issuing a s172 notice. Section 172(2) begins:Car_54 said:
They are alleging three criminal offences.
"Where the driver of a vehicle is alleged to be guilty of an offence to which this section applies—"
There is a likelihood here that a Third Party alleges that his vehicle sustained damage as a result of the OP's car being in the vicinity (though, as mentioned above, not necessarily involved in a collision). The stock response from the police is to issue a s172 notice with those three allegations. Very often, after obtaining the driver's details, they will be passed on to the TP's insurers and that will see an end to police involvement.2 -
I've had my car hit by another car, I had to give chase. Even then, the police said its down to insurance. I know of people who were rear ended and not stopped, again they said its "not in the public interest" and they don't have resources.1

You seem to be still ignoring the fact that the police HAVE already got involved in this case. The Notice of Intended Prosecution is sent by the police. It doesn't mean they will be sending uniformed officers round but at this stage, it is being dealt with by the relevant police force.m0bov said:I've had my car hit by another car, I had to give chase. Possibility of another car on cloned plates maybe? No free lunch, and no free laptop

I don't think @m0bov was suggesting that the OP should ignore the notice or that the police hadn't already done something. I think he's saying that in many - if not most - cases like this, the police don't follow it up with a prosecution and simply leave it to the insurers to sort out.noitsnotme said:

Saying "always" might have been a bit of an exaggeration

Not sure if the OP has actually said if they were or weren’t in the vicinity and at the time of the incidentmacman said:Possibility of another car on cloned plates maybe?0 -
Try not to worry at this stage, just let the process play out and it will most likely be dropped. I know it's hard, but if they can't even state the time when it happened...1
