Fast track passport renewal - photo rejected

I applied for a passport renewal at the beginning of February but the application was withdrawn by mistake, an error HM Passport Office have admitted to making. 

This has now left me with no choice but to pay for a fast track passport. My appointment was today. I took a photo at a booth and on the online application form it said it was fine, at the appointment today it said it was rejected. I was told a new link to send a new photo would be sent today. I haven't received a new link and when I called up, they said the examiners have all gone home.

I fly next weekend. Also, I have enough months validity on my old passport for the country I'm visiting but decided to renew to be on the safe side. They still haven't returned my old passport!!!!

They won’t return your old passport until the application has been completed. It will be cancelled and the corner will be clipped.
what did they say was wrong with your photo?  

Your application will have gone into the national queue and the photo may be accepted by the new examiner.  You should get an email/ text tomorrow with an update.

Photo booth codes expire after a month, perhaps that code did not allow the examiner to access the original photo, only the online saved copy.

Go to a proper photographers shop, they will take multiple photos and give u a code to submit online.
