Evening everyone

My CHR has developed a serious crack in the windscreen. It appears to be on the inside of the glass.

In 30 years of motoring I’ve never has to replace a windscreen.

looked online at potential replacement prices and its eye watering.

can anyone offer any advice on this? Is is worth doing it through insurance or Autoglass?

Hope this info to help.

Thank you

I had a period from about 2000 to 2008 or so, where I seemed to get a crack just appear every couple of years. Always got it replaced using the car insurance.

Since then not a single instance.

Autoglass will ask you for your insurance details  - it may cost you nothing or £10 .

Replace ASAP it will probably be a MOT fail.
Never pay on an estimated bill

Likely to be a lot more than £10. Do any insurance companies still have windscreen repair excesses under £50?

I've had to replace one or two windscreens. I've always gone through insurance. It doesn't affect NCD and makes no obvious difference to my premium.

Not all policies cover windscreen as standard these days - for some trying to offer cheaper prices, it's an optional extra - so start by looking at what your policy does and doesn't cover, and what the excesses are.

Call the dealer for advice regarding calibration of the camera system if a new screen is fitted.

Booked this but then read the reviews online for the company that does the work for the insurers and they are awful. Wonder if the insurance company will allow Toyota to do it? Doubt it but will ask them

No you have to use the insurance approved repairer. I had three from autoglass before they got it right.

Shouldnt need to call the dealer, auto glass will calibrate after replacing , they will tell you what you need to do if anything
