Going from 2 cars to 1, how do we both keep our NCD ?

Options
Wife and I both have full NCD on our own cars, we  are selling one car and just keeping one which is registered in my name and she is a named driver. How do we maintain my wife’s NCD once we go to one car , can we alternate year after year as to who insured it. We will use the car equally. Thank you

Switch to her taking out the policy next year, rinse & repeat if you only still have one car.

Do insurers let you do that as she’s not registered keeper ?

Yes, we do that, I'm the registered keeper but the car is a marital asset.

That’s great thank you , may I ask who you are insured with ? or do you change dependant on price each year ?

We used to do that. I don’t know whether it’s all insurers but NcD stays valid for the second year.
they may enquire as to why there’s a gap.
dont leave it any longer though as will expire.

It will vary from insurer to insurer, so read the questions and assumptions about who is the owner, who is the registered keeper, who is the main driver etc carefully. But most insurers will not be too worried when it's husband and wife sharing a car. They're more likely to be picky if it's a parent and teenage son, or more distant relatives etc.

Do a quote check what would be the insurance difference with high NCD and none. When I got rid of the car I was worried that it will go into thousands £ but was nicely surprised that it didn't.
