Doubt a Firestick will care where it is located.

I've taken our Firestick to Cyprus and watched various UK TV channels by using a VPN

You can but because of the IP it has it will know its abroad and so for certain apps you will see different content or restricted content. If downloaded content will work will depends on the app and any territorial limits on the material.

It does to the degree that iPlayer won't stream, Netflix will show the Cypriate version, Prime will only stream content thats available in both the UK and Cyprus etc.

You can install a VPN however and then connect through the UK and then you get all you can get here (assuming it's not a VPN the app has identified/blocked). That said, it can occasionally be interesting to see Netflix content from other countries and you can use the VPN whilst at home to appear in the US or Japan etc to gain access to their content there.

Remember that apps are getting good at detecting VPNs so you'll need one designed to work the service you want.

Forgive my obvious ignorance, what is a vpn?    An app?  An actual thing?   🤔

Virtual Private Network. Try Googling it.

I've noticed that hotels quite often have an HDMI port on the wall adjacent to their TVs - I guess it's to stop punters towing the wall-mounted sets loose trying to plug in their Firesticks/Chromecasts/cables.
