Direct Debit

Options
Hi, newbie to the site. My ex partner has been having a lot of problems with her housing assoc, i wont go in to all the details as not relevant here, but my question is...when a housing assoc is asked to change a direct debit with a bank, how long after should it be before the new amount shows up on her online banking as "amount due out". Her direct debit was set at £940, the housing was to change this to £657. Its 4-5 days since the housing said they had made the change, but her online banking still shows the direct debit as £940

  • Her direct debit is monthly, payments are due the 1st of each month, all the housing had to change was the amount to be paid

Just checking, a Direct Debit would not show the amount in advance, it would just show the Direct Debit was set up. Is this definitely a Direct Debit and not a Standing Order, which would show the amount?

My bank lists direct debits with the last paid amount; it doesn't show new amounts until the new amount has actually been paid.

If it's a Direct Debit and nor a Standing order then the amount will change when the DD is taken on the 1st

    Exactly this.
For example, my credit card debits different amounts each month (I pay off in full) and the bank always shows the upcoming payment as whatever it was the previous time.

Not surprising really since the sending bank doesn't have a crystal ball. So until the receiving bank calls for the DD, it can only assume the amount will be the same as previous month.
