Aaargh, £125.32! without referencing the receipts, that seems to be what's been spent on groceries etc. at the supermarket over the last few days! I'm a bit horrified, to put it mildly. On the other hand, we are at double the new "usual" numbers currently & DS3 is with us until Wednesday. There's also a huge joint of silverside in the freezer for reference later in the month. It's not all bad but it does go to show how easily the money slips away when you are under pressure & in a hurry. I still have to do the non-perishables but will really need to rein the spending in if I'm to get anywhere near my target in a 5-week month. Especially as it appears DD1 will actually be here at least 2 nights a week, with or without BF...Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)7

HI could you please put me down for £500 please
This is for 2 adults, a teen who eats more than me, a preteen who needs a high protein, high calorie diet and an 8 year old.
We've got plenty in the stores (I'm still using up an abundance of packets, tins, sachets) and have recently filled up the snack boxes so hopefully it'll just be fresh produce needed. We're on half term until 15th so we can get some of the random snack bits used in the freezer during this time.Grocery Challenge 2024

Good afternoon.
Not sure what happened to February and March. I struggled to separate the amounts when buying birthday items at the same time so stopped logging amounts. Would like to give April a go with£690 please
That's for 4 adults and 2 teens with lots of different food requirements. And we have 2 weeks half term where they eat everything in sight.LBM in April 17 - Starting card debt £33554

Picked the first rhubarb of the year this afternoon, too! And some tree cabbage & kale, and some leeks; the Girls are laying well too - every little helps!
Yummy on the rhubarb. is it forced? I'm still waiting to pick mine. BTW no idea what a tree cabbage is????????
Your post prompted me to take one of the many frozen cooked rhubard tubs out of the freezer to eat - yay
I've had some weekend spends:
Instead of getting a fat/calorific takeaway Thursday night we decided to pop to co-op with other half's discount card. Got a curry meal deal (which incl 4 beers), some hot x buns, big bag crisps, sourdough loaf for the princely sum of £11.60. Actaully very happy with this, given that a takeaway would have cost far more and we felt like a treat.
Further spends at M&S £50.01 / Co-op £41.73 / Tesco £4
Weekend grocery spends total £107.34
Its high, but hey its Easter weekend. Much easier to keep track of spend and temptations when paying with cash!

Can I join in please
£400 budget for April
This is for 2 adults, 1 child, special diets and pets. Also usually includes cleaning stuff but I've recently bulk ordered cleaning items so we should be fine there.
If I can stick to £400 I'll be very happy! I know I have lots of freezer and cupboard items to use up and hopefully this will give me a push to do just that.

First of the month and first shop of the month. We had a big stock up at Lidl to make the most of the 10% discount voucher we "earned" last month. We stocked up on tins, cheese, oats and some frozen fruits for breakfast. We also got mouthwash, toothpaste, shower gel and the face cream that OH is very happy to use.
we also got a refund for an Easter egg in last week's shop that wasn't discounted in the 3 for 2 offer. The assistant was very grudging about it but we persisted - £3 is not an insignificant over charge. There was a time I wouldn't even have noticed let alone done anything about it.
I'm going to try and put a meal a week away in the freezer so that the final week of the month can be inexpensive if/when I get to the end of the budget before the end of the month.
sorry about your lovely pet @elsiepac - very sad to lose a much loved pet.
thank you for running this thread and keeping so many of us on track with our spending. You really help us keep our money in our purses and not in the supermarket tills.

Good morning All and “hello” to any newbies
Question for the hive mind: I have a reasonable amount of roast leg of lamb leftover from Sunday’s dinner. What do you suggest I make with it that won’t mask the lovely flavour? I’m happy to do a stew or whatever. We have most things in stock but we only have one potato left so shepherds’ pie is out. My original idea was to make a Madras Curry, but the spices would mask the flavour. Now I’m wondering about a tagine…Hmmm….
On the shopping front, I’ve got two shops to declare. On Saturday, armed with Lorne Sausage and Black Pudding from visiting his best mate’s, DH stopped at Aldi on the way home and spent 99p on a packet of 4 ciabatta rolls. (They were the only rolls in stock.). We ate them along with the sausage and pudding for breakfast on Sunday.
Yesterday, he popped to L!dl, to pick up a “free” Baresa pasta/antipasta item. The best VFM item was the 1kg bag of fusilli pasta (£1.39 not spent). While he was there, he also bought a YS pork leg joint (£3.67), a dozen large FR eggs (£2.69), 3 litres of lactose free skimmed milk (now at 99p/L) and a package of Gouda slices (£2.99). Total spend was £12.32.
The above brings our April total to £24.29/£140, leaving £115.71 for the rest of the month.

@PipneyJane : I often use up leftover roast lamb in a spiced lamb pilaf. It doesn't use that much meat, so is useful for finishing up the scraps.
I'm using the last of our roast lamb in some Greek lamb gyros tonight.6 -
@PipneyJane - I've made this lamb tagine with leftover roast lamb which isn't bad: https://www.harighotra.co.uk/leftover-lamb-tagine-recipe although I think anything with spices is going to mask the lovely taste of lamb but having said that I'm not keen on cold lamb so usually end up making something else with it!5
