I am going on a cruise next Feb and decided to get annual insurance to include that and a couple of trips to Europe. I was astonished. £70+. Trips to Europe i hacve cover now for £20, is this amount normal for cruise?

If you need medical evacuation from a cruise it can cost a fortune. Your quote seems very reasonable, Carribean cruise insurance for someone with pre existing medical conditions can cost thousands. Our sons two week cruise last year in the med was over £50 for a single trip with no medical conditions for example0

Medical costs on a ship are exceptionally high, it can often involve medivac which is expensive, depending on where you are it can involve more than 1 medivac where they take you to the nearest island hospital and then on again to a major mainland hospital.
The largest travel claim I've seen was almost £2m from someone who had a stroke on a cruise ship in the Caribbean, first airlifted to a tropical island and then a second time to the US. The claim would probably have been much higher but the passenger died after a month or so in the US hospital.0 -
On our last cruise there were three medical evacuations by helicopter, they weren't short hops to the shore either. Goodness knows what they cost.0
