Hello
i was a Utility Point customer for energy when they went back at the end of 2021. I migrated my supply to Octopus shortly after this.
The final ultility point bill is as issued by EDF, however the bill was incorrect.

I received confirmation from Octopus that the meter readings UP / EDF used were not the readings that were provided by Octopus and were confirmed by the industry. Their action lead to an over charge on the final bill.
i contacted EDF at the time, in fact several times and I have all the communications, they eventually stopped responding to me and I at the time advised that I wouldn’t pay the final bill until a correct final bill had been issued. I tried over a number of months to resolve.
today, I was surprised to arrive home to a letter from a debt collector to collect the outstanding balance.
what should me next step be? I can’t honestly recall what the over charge was and I could just send them all the communications?
thank you

The debt collector won`t be interested in your dispute, they get assigned these debts on the basis of no results, no commission, all they will do is continue to pester you for the money, then return the account to EDF when they realise your not going to pay.
Your issue is with EDF and you should use their formal complaints process in order to resolve the matter.
There is a 3 stage process to their complaints procedure, details here -

Thank you, it’s good to understand the process. I’ll write a formal letter & send by email next week. I’m happy to pay them, just not for the double billed amounts due to their admin error.I assumed the problem was too difficult for them to deal with because at one point they even said to me as I’m not a customer they can’t speak to me, or they just kept sending me template responses that had no relation to the problem

Well that’s a result. Wrote a complaint letter to EDF this week and they’ve reduced the balance to zero and closed the account balance as a gesture of goodwill. I included a screenshot of all the emails that had gone between us for a nine month period, more emails from me than from them! They’ve called off the wolves too3
