Still waiting on backdated widowed parents allowance

The rules changed but because you lived with someone you are not entitled to it. Not everyone will be owed money because of the changes and there will always be some that miss out.Dorothys_slipper said:Why did they leave me waiting 9 months? I wasn't entitled to anything because I wasn't married. The law changed and because I got married (which was annulled 14 years ago) I'm not entitled again. Why encourage back dated claims? It just seems like a cruel game. This forum is about help with benefits entitlement and not about benefits policy. Please see the sticky at the top of the forum.0 -
It probably took them 9 months to get through the claims logged before they got to yours. When it comes to DWP, incompetence/inefficiency is always a more likely explanation than anything deliberate.Dorothys_slipper said:
They have taken 9 months to make a decision. Why not say no 9 months ago.poppy12345 said:
Surely you knew you wouldn't be entitled based on all the advice you've received here.Dorothys_slipper said:I rang again. Apparently, after waiting 9 months, they have decided I am not entitled. The rules changed in 2017, meaning I would only be entitled for a few years because my daughter turned 18. However because o lived with someone 14 years ago it has voided my claim. They could have told me that 9 months ago. Surely I am judged from 2017 from when the law changed? Still widowed and on my own.0 -
If you are unhappy with the law that the Government passed the n take the matter up with your MP.0

Thanks. I was apparently a loop hole case as people that had their claim rejected seemed to hear quite quickly.Spoonie_Turtle said:
