Removed gas meter but still on gas tariffs

Hi, the property does not have gas usage and paid Eon to remove the gas meter. The property uses electricity only. It took a very long time for them to get an appointment and remove it. They inactive the meter and do not charge gas anymore. However, the tariff still has both electricity and gas rates. When we changed the electricity smart meter, the guy could not program it because he said the property still shows gas and he has been booked for both meters. I spoke with them many times, they are just not able to sort it out. Every time different people. I gave up! Can we change the provider to electricity tariff only to sort out this? Thanks

Have you made a formal complaint to them yet and made it clear that it is a complaint? That needs to be your first step before going to the ombudsman if they don’t deal with it within eight weeks. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
As above.
But are they charging the standing charge for the gas?Life in the slow lane0 -

ThanksI suspect the problem is that the central database has not yet been updated and that can take a while.Switching providers isn't going to automatically fix it as your new provider will just get the same information from the same central database.Your current provider is responsible for submitting the change, and as long as they have done that it is as much as they can do.How long is it since the gas meter was removed?0

If they switched electricity, why would the new supplier be worried about the presence or absence of gas?0

They wouldn't. But the current one would. Which should make it easier to resolve.Qyburn said:If they switched electricity, why would the new supplier be worried about the presence or absence of gas?Life in the slow lane0 -
They did not charge any gas after removed meter They gray out the meter. Only charge the electricity but still on dual tarriffborn_again said:As above.

The guy said Eon did not remove gas from the central record. The meter has been removed almost a year now. National Grid just contacted to inspect the gas pipe for the security property with no gas meter. Although asked Eon many times to update and remove the gas tariff. But they told me if they do not charge and no gas meter, it is all good! They also once set up DD without my approval They used old bank DD on my history. I have to cancel with the bank. When I asked them they said it was an error... This is bad!MWT said:financehelp23 said:Can we change the provider to electricity tariff only to sort out this? Ombudsman time, if an official complain has been made and timed out...No free lunch, and no free laptop

If the property still has a mains gas feed but capped off at the old meter location it may not have been fully removed from gas supply databases.
Going off grid is a 2 stage operation from posts here.
Meter then supply line if necessary.
It is IIRC apparently normal for their to be a 12 month wait between meter removal and finally going off supply.
This is covered here -

National Grid have now been in touch re the second stage.
According to ENA link - If metal gas pipe from main gas pipe (street level) it may need removal or disconnecting / capping at street level - not meter level.
The OP hasn't been charged - any further costs since the meter removed.
All seems to be operating exactly as expected re supply.
Not sure why still on dual tariff zero rate billing though.
Suppliers will do electric only - EOn Next certainly do. Fixed, pledge and variable SR or E7 all available from them.
It shouldnt though take a year to update national meter database for a simple swap - I was advised 3-4 weeks for parents meter by SP.
But never gone off suplly - is it possible perhaps also in part in some way a supply record not just a meter record - so sort of also needs to await final DNO / supply review / action ?EditPS You might want to check some of the threads on the ASHP sub-thread - as many fitting them will be having their gas meters / supplies removed. Seem to remember one post indicating it was included as part of their Octopus ASHP package for instance.0 -
Thanks, this is very helpful! Yes, National Grid said will remove pipe for free. We contacted them before they were charging 1500. But after 12 months, they will do it for free. I am not sure what Eon doing. We are still on dual tariff , but not charged gas because meter removed no gas supply. Seems all fine. I am not sure any price differences for dual or electric onlyScot_39 said:If the property still has a mains gas feed but capped off at the old meter location it may not have been fully removed from gas supply databases.
