A Good Fridge Manufacturer?

Hi there,

I replaced a Hisense fridge that had been brilliant for eight years with the most recent 2023 model of the same type - free standing fridge, six feet tall, like an American style.

Suffice to say, Hisense have gone downhill - product was inferior quality (the handle broke off in a week) and has since failed in eight months leaving me to deal with the nightmare that is their aftercare.

Anyway,  does anyone have any GOOD experience with a make of this type of fridge or other fridges lately? I was looking at replacing it with a Beko one once I get my money back as I have a Beko chest freezer that's eleven years old and working fine still.

But ... the Hisense fridge was also good BEFORE so I'm a little torn.

If anyone can recommend something I'd appreciate it.

PS This is the trash tier Hisense fridge if anyone is interested.

What sort of budget are you aiming at?

I'd put Samsung on the avoid list, think they are style over substance.

The ones we are looking at are probably above your desired budget
  • We've had a Beko fridge freezer for a decade or so. It's been great. I don't know what their recent refrigeration appliances are like, but we've bought a dishwasher, washing machine and dryer from them since and none has ever given us any trouble (touch wood!!).

My fridge freezer is AEG, it is 25 years old and still working perfectly, about 5 years ago I replaced the door seals but no other issues

£600 or so budget wise but I can go either way if need be.

Yeh the Beko freezer I have is GREAT still going strong after ten years, but I could say the same about the last Hisense fridge. Worked great for seven years, and then the gas leaked out. It might be that I broke it moving it around as we made changes to the kitchen a few times and lugged it around.

Any known name will probably be OK, refrigeration is (usually) pretty reliable.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

We have a Beko fridge freezer bought in August 2012. Originally used in external garage until Dec 2020. Since Feb 2021 in utility room. Survived a move into & out of storage in between and still working perfectly. I’ll happily buy another when it eventually dies.

Our 30 year old Hotpoint fridge freezer (which lived in the inner corner of our integral garage) recently started to give up the ghost.  Freezer part seemed fine, but the top fridge wasn't chilling.

Not worth getting someone out to look at it, so replaced it with a Bosch.  The chappie we bought the Bosch from (Euronics) admitted that any new fridge is unlikely to live anywhere near as long as our old Hotpoint.
