Electricity going up?

So my standing charge for electricity with EDF is going up by over 20% from 55p to 67 pence.  Add my gas I am now paying £365 a year. My estimated usage charge for the year has gone up not down.  Including my gas I am going to save £24 over the year.  So that is 2%.  Something very wrong!!

Not necessarily - this last Winter has been mild - EDF will have weather predictions for the year ahead.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Even with 14p increase in standing charges - these should be offset by changes in gas - down c1.4p on ave  and electric - down c4p+ on ave - unit rates.

But if a low user - that could still be marginal saving.

As would need the savings on just over c3kWh per day of electric or 10 kWh of gas per day to offset that increae in SC - or a mix of both

Your £24 per year = 6.5p per day - about 1.5 unit of electric or 5 units of gas a day or a mix of both above that.

But the Ofgem cap in news is based on 2700kWh and 11500kWh annually - so 7.4kWh electric and 31.5Wh gas - or an ave daily saving of c75p on units to cover the on average across regions lower c8.4p SC increases.

So headline regional ave  Ofgem cap - savings of £238 on average or 65p per day - but their will be regional differences .

One region actually saw their electric SC reduce slightly (0.6p) another saw it increase nearly 14p.  14p a day = £51 pa.

That's why many low users and some poverty campaigners want SC reduced or abolished completely.

But not all low - electric especially -  users are poor - as c1.3m homes have invested £1000s in solar/ battery systems to become so.

And that risks really penalising those reliant on conventional electric heating if equalised at ave TDCV levels - already the most expensive form of home heating.
