LLOYDS BANK £200 BANK SWITCH PHONE SCAM March 2024

I get lots of telephone scam calls the Amazon and Visa ones are most common. However today (14/03/2024) I had a call from scammers pretending to be from Lloyds Bank offering £200 to switch banks to them. An Indian caller offering the £200 switch and after my own bank details. I called the caller a scammer and he ended the call. the number showing was 00433770754314 (probably premium rate call back?)
Just a heads up.

That phone number has the country code for Austria, although it’s probably spoofed.

The leading 00 indicates it’s an international call.  The next (usually two or three) numbers are the country code.  In this case 43 is Austria.

I would always be very cautious of any number starting with 00 unless you are expecting a call from overseas.

But if you look through the forum you will find that Lloyds do have a genuine switching offer valid until March 28. But the amount is £175, which confirms that an offer of £200 is a scam.
  • Interesting. Never heard of this type of scam before, but makes sense. Use an existing switch offer albeit wrong amount (and this might be deliberate to filter people who are paying attention) so people may be more likely to fall for it because it's something they've heard of, and then bam. No idea if it'll work because of all the security steps needed to complete a switch, but it's still good to be aware of these scams, and to warn those who we know are more vulnerable. I'll be sure to warn others since I like to recommend switching to those who I know as an easy way for a bit of extra cash.
  • I phoned Lloyds Bank to tell them about the new scam and they were NOT INTERESTED!

There really isn't much they can do, they always push out warning messages about scams and tell you not to give out info from cold calls

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Nor would they be as they can't do much about it. You need to report it to your telephone provider.

Report a phishing attempt | Action Fraud

If you have not lost any money or responded to the call, you should report report scam call numbers free of charge to 7726. Your provider can find our where the call came from and block or ban the number.

To report a scam call, simply text 7726 with the word ‘Call’ followed by the scam
    caller’s number.
