John Lewis 2 year warranty and manufacturer registration

Bought a small electrical item from John Lewis. It’s stopped working after 1year 10months from purchase (ie within the two year guarantee period that John Lewis). John Lewis have done their basic troubleshooting and directed me to the manufacturer as per their flowchart.

Manufacturer states as over twelve months old, the warranty has expired. I’ve done some basic digging around on their website. Manufacturer states they will honour guarantees from retail partners as long as the appliance has been registered with them. Nothing on John Lewis website or in the order emails to state I need to register the item for the two year guarantee to apply.

I’m about to go back to John Lewis about this. Was there an expectation for me to have registered the appliance with the manufacturer despite John Lewis website/order email not stating anything of the sort?

Difficult to say without knowing the precise details, but if it was advertised with a two-year warranty and there's nothing in the product details or on the website, on the order/receipt details or on any warranty card that came with the product to say that you needed to do something specific to enable the warranty, I think they're obliged to honour it because it was part of the contract.

The first year of the JL guarantee is with the manufacturer, the second is with JL. Whilst they can ask you to speak with the manufacturer, you shouldn’t be getting told there is nothing they can do. Go back to JL as this isn’t right.
