I've noticed that eBay give the seller the choice of declining the cancellation request. Is this new? What happens if I decline?

A similar matter, which is becoming more frequent on my private seller account, is buying, paying and then putting in a cancellation request. I'm selling my surplus furniture, but buyers claim they didn't see it was "collection only". It is annoying, time-consuming, costs me 30p each time and I can't relist immediately but need to wait for my next free listings weekend.
That is frustrating, I had one last week and looking at their feedback left for others it is full of 'I was able to cancel this purchase, thank you seller' positives. I actually reported them to ebay for malicious buying.

Thanks, Soolin. I'll try the decline cancellation request for the first time and see what transpires.

I have always been nervous about cancelling, and usually just accept with gritted teeth. My fear is that if I decline item may well find it arrives mysteriously broken...

I've declined and ebay asks for the (optional) postal tracking number, which doesn't apply as I sold for collection only. I see from the invoice that my buyer is 15 miles away. I suspect she knew very well it was collection only, but had a change of heart about the 30-mile round trip.
