Uniform Tax Clarification

in Cutting tax
I was wondering whether someone could clarify if we are able to claim for tax relief where we have been provided with a branded fleece to wear whilst at work. Although it is not obligatory, most of the time we are choosing to wear this, are we still able to claim?

What are you looking to claim for? Simply wearing it? Tax allowances are usually provided, albeit small sums, for laundry of uniforms - think ambulance staff. Not sure that wearing a fleece with company logo falls into the same category.0

Yes, looking to see if we can claim for the laundering. We are not a business that falls into one of the main categories listed on HMRC.0

Personally I’d have said very unlikely as everybody has to wear clothes to work and be expected to launder them, albeit a business suit or tee-shirt and jeans. Not sure that a fleece with a logo falls into the same category as uniform in the example I gave, ambulance staff, police and such like. Back in the day I think mine gave rise to a saving of about £10 a year.1

Providing your employer doesn't provide washing facilities or reimburse your costs of course.1 -

Got a bit confused on the wording on the show, was expecting the £60 plus the £12 paid in tax, filled out the online form and had a reply of a rebate of £44. Is the £60 refundable somehow?0

Which is often worth £12 (or £24) per tax year.
But most people owe small amounts of tax so the real benefit is more like £10/year if you make a backdated claim. Plus a little bit of interest HMRC pay after certain dates.
So £44 looks about right if you have claimed for 4 previous tax years.1 -
