Hacked Amazon account

Late on Saturday night I checked my emails and found a confirmation of an order from Amazon.com. Seeing as I have only ever shopped with Amazon.co.uk I was a bit suprised, and was then appalled to see that someone had used my account to order $700 worth of G&B watches which were to be delivered to the Ivory Coast. I didn't click on any of the links on the email but opened up a new window and tried to log on to Amamzon.com. I was horrified to find that my co.uk account details would also log me onto the .com site and there was the order! Thankfully the order hadn't been sent so I immediately cancelled it and contacted Amamzon but under the account details there was a long list of all the credit/debit carrds I had ever used - despite my deleting them on the co.uk site. I cancelled all my cards leaving me cardless over Christmas and hopefully I haven't lost anything but all my details including mobile number, past and present address and even my parents address were there. I'm so wary now!

How on earth did the hacker get into your Amazon account? I just tried to check to see if they had my old credit card details and even when I got in, which I could only do by using my password, I couldn't find my card and contact details. Where should I have looked?

BTW Have you scanned your PC for spyware? If someone has hacked into your machine, rather than your account, you may have to check all other accounts for which details are kept on your machine. Also have you checked that your firewall is turned on?

I virus scan every day and have a firewall and spy blocker aswell. I found my credit card details under the 'my account' section and the add/delete card bit.

My hubby works in computers and he knows that Amazon was hacked into last year and loads of account details were stolen. It's wierd that the .com site had all my cards (old and new) but the co.uk site only had my current card!

Thanks tagz. I have removed all my (old and new) credit card details from Amazon's site. I have only just noticed that there is no obvious way to sign out of the site, even though I have to sign in to process a sale. Maybe there is a weak link there? I don't recall ever signing out of Amazon, it even welcomes me by name.

If you go onto the homepage next to your personal welcome it should say 'not ....?' if you click on there it should log you off. I hate the way my .co.uk details are active on all the other Amazon sites, but they will show different order historys. Thankfully the hacker didn't change the email address - it was that which alerted me!

many thanks, i had no idea my amazon.co.uk details were also on the .com site. i have also deleted my card details from .com site and went to do the same on .co.uk site and they'd already gone.so very much linked , i will be keeping an extra eye on them from now on.perhaps i'm being niave but it never occured to me that by reg on uk site also got you reg to each of their other sites.:o

by the way on .co.uk site you can log out from site by clicking on my account and at bottom of page in useful information , you can log out.

I cancelled all my details, then one of their products went wrong.When I applied for a replacement, they would only give one if I bought another one, then they could re-credit my account. A round the houses way of doing business IMO.

Surely these details only become available after you sign into your amazon account with your user name and password? This is like saying your online banking is unsafe because it has details of your bank account!
Also I find even when I do not sign out of amazon I need to re-enter my password whenever I try to access any account details. This feels safe enough for me. I stand to lose just as much if some one hacks my paypal account.

Maybe tagz had a trojan or keylogger on her/his puter.
