2 year childcare eligibility for people on work visa

As an immigrant on a Skilled Worker visa, one of the conditions is the restriction from accessing public funds. However, clarity on what exactly constitutes a public fund is elusive, as government websites do not provide clear definitions.

Regarding childcare funding, while it's stated that individuals on this visa cannot access public funds for two years, there seems to be uncertainty about whether childcare assistance falls under this category, specially with regards to Childcare funding.

The childcare funding for 3 years is available for all however for 2 years old, the site says NO. Therefore, it's crucial to determine how childcare funding is categorised—is it considered a public fund or not? Clarification on this matter would provide immigrants with a better understanding of their eligibility for childcare support within the constraints of their visa conditions.

Please can someone advise.

I would have thought it is public funds but check here and if that fails you might need to speak with a welfare rights organisation or a solicitor

If your immigration status says you have ‘no recourse to public funds’, you may still get free childcare for your 2-year-old. You must live in England and your household income must be no more than:

    • £26,500 for families outside of London with one child
    • £34,500 for families within London with one child
    • £30,600 for families outside of London with two or more children
    • £38,600 for families within London with two or more children

You cannot have more than £16,000 in savings or investments.

Contact your childcare provider or check with your local council if you’re unsure if you can get free childcare.

I agree but I suppose the government doesn't want migrants that are on skilled visas in professions in demand leaving the uk when they are needed.
