Hi hope someone can help me understand timescales.
My UC assessment period is 20th-19th.
My child is in sixth year in school, sitting advanced highers (Scotland).
Final exam is late May.
Leaving date from school perspective is the end of term, 28th June.
Turns 18 early August.
Currently has a part-time job at the weekend, and is applying for degree appenticeships (most have a start date of Sept 2024).
What date would we no longer be entitled to the child element on our claim?
I think it would be late May, but am confused.
Thanks for any help.

A child aged 16-19 is treated as a qualifying young person as long as they remain in non-advanced full time education, so they should be removed from the claim the day after the date the course officially ends. If the course officially ends on 28th June, then they are no longer a qualifying young person on 29th June and you should declare a change on that date to remove them as a child from your UC claim, and add them back as a non-dependant if they are still living at the property.
There is no run on period until 31st August for qualifying young persons on UC in the year the course ends, as there is for Child Benefit.

If the course ends on 28th June and your assessment periods are 20th to 19th of every month because UC is based on your circumstances on the last day of each assessment period.  Your last child element will be 20th May to 19th June, with payment on 26th June.
  • Thank you NedS
I was getting myself mixed up thinking it should be the day after the final exam because he has a part-time job.
I'll report on Jornal on 29th June.

    You're welcome.
Working (the job) is not relevant.
Everyone will have a different date of last exam, depending what exams they are taking. It is the official course end date that is relevant, which for schools will be the last official day of the school term.

I was hoping that, but got myself so mixed up when I was reading about date of final exams, which NedS kindly cleared up for me.
