    @sourcrates Thanks for your replies.

    If I stop making minimum payments on a 15000 debt credit card, how long will they continue to add interest and penalties to this amount before it defaults?

    Could it be that a 15k credit card debt suddenly rises to 20K after I stop making minimum payments?
  • Interest will stop when they default you, how long does that take? no one knows.

    If as you say you don't intend coming back to the UK it doesn't matter how much interest is added.
    If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

    Yes but as @sourcrates advised I changed my address on the account to Czech address (to make sure my parents don't get letters in the UK).

    I'm thinking that if the 15k debt rises lets say to 20k from interest then it's definately worth for them to chase it my country. Since, I given them the exact address they will know exactly where to go.

    Czech bailiffs are not nice people and it's totally unregulated industry here.  :/

    They can enter house even if I'm not in, hell they can even take you to prison for unpaid debts.

  • You have been told unsecured debt will not be chased abroad, unless it's £20 million not  £20.000.

    You are just overthinking something that is not going to happen.

    Companies write off debts for millions every day, 20k is small fry in the banking world.

    Credit debts to banks just go to collections, if they know where you live, they may write to you, but that will be as far as it gets, the process for collecting UK debts abroad is just too time consuming and costly, they would rather write it off against there tax liability than go on a wild goose chase.

  • @pedrosa666 sorry to pin on your post, I am in very same situation but only with debt around 8k. Just wanted to ask you if you ignored the debt  did anything happened? I changed my address to the local council in Czech Republic so even if they tried to enforce the debt they wont be able to get anything from local council 🙂 however my worst nightmare is - if the debt was potentially sold they will take it off my salary and  leave me with minimum living wage.
    Most comments on this thread did actually give me some peace but there is still a little bit of me saying my mind it can not be that easy. 🤷‍♀️
    Another reason I want to know is I wanted to get married over here in CZ since 2020 when I returned from the UK but don’t want a situation in a few years that a bloody bailiffs will knock a door and take anything what my fiance did work for all his life just because I was stupid while living in the UK. Now I am debt free (at least in this country).
    Thanks for any response.

    Pink Lady if you have read every post you will know nothing is to happen for a UK debt of £8000 outside of the UK.

    Stop worrying there is no point while you are outside the UK I will say it again nothing is going to happen.
