I haven’t received child benefit for years, but due to the change now entitled again. How do I start reclaiming? I work part time. My husband earns 70k so we are now entitled

Hi, I applied for child benefit March 22 when my baby was born but opted not to receive payments as my husband would likely earn towards £60k (the threshold at the time) meaning we would paying a large amount of it back. Obviously this has now changed going forwards from April but I was given the option to backdate these payments…
does anybody know if I can backdate that back to the original date of March 22?
My husband has been poorly and earned around £50k per annum for the last two years so we would actually have been better off and not paid much tax on it (if any).
if I am able to backdate it can he then pay the tax on those two years now?it would only be a small amount if any

Everything I have seen suggests you can only backdate CB for three months.
Technically you were claiming it (receiving the benefit of NI credits) but opted out of receiving payments. In hindsight you were probably better receiving it and sticking it in a savings account and then once your income level is known then either repaying some, all or none.
I am guessing the honest is on you to realise you could have had the payment two years ago and change the claim…Proud to have dealt with our debtsStarting debt 2005 £65.7K.
