Curtain Rail Spacing?

I'm putting up curtain rail(s) from the ceiling for hotel style full length curtains, with a separate sheer behind.
I was wondering if anyone else had a similar setup, and what the required or best width to have between the two rails would be to give the curtain/sheer enough space to be pulled across independently?
I've seen Ikea sell a triple track, with around 3.5cm between the front and back track - is this enough space between tracks?

Will depend on the fabric of the curtains and the space between each attachment point you are planning for it. Heavy/thick front curtains with wide spacing will give deep folds for a dramatic look but require a greater spacing for the rear netting to move comfortably across whilst the curtains are retracted1
