Migrating Tax Credits to Universal Credit

When do tax credits end when you receive a migration notice letter?

(1) Immediately when you click the last enter on the universal credit online application on or before the migration due date

(2) When the universal credit application is finalised, i.e. the DWP are happy with your identity etc?

Thank you.

    Thank you.

    That’s what I was hoping!

EDIT: To clarify, I work 24 hours a week but retiring in June. Migration date is mid April. No point going for universal credit for less than three months as I don’t intend working after June and UC expects work to continue. The timing of the end of tax credits couldn’t have been better given it is ending anyway and unearned income (private pension) is treated less favourably in the new system as it is deducted pound for pound meaning that universal credit is likely to be zero. I can do the migration and let universal credit lapse if we have any verification issues.

Tax Credits will end as soon as you claim UC.
Otherwise your Migration Notice letter tells you that your Tax Credits will end on a set date, and advises that if you want to get UC as a replacement for them and get any Transitional Protection then you have to claim UC by that date.

Because pension income is deducted at 100% net instead of 41% gross then we won’t qualify for universal credit. I will only do the migration needful to close off tax credits for a partial year assessment. We need to migrate by April 20th and will have zero income between April 6th and April 20th so that may give some tax credits as opposed to zero if left for a full 2024/25 assessment.
