If I do as per the title, will the credit card (Santander Edge) treat it as a cash withdrawal? If not, would I earn Cashback on the transaction?

Do Very allow you to pay the credit balance with a credit card? What did they say when you asked?

I suspect Santander may not let you either - what did they say when you asked?

It's effectively a cash transfer though no guarantee either way they would treat it this way. Could you get a Money Transfer card instead?

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Most credit companies require payment by debit card or bank transfer and not by another means of credit.

See the Very Ts and Cs.

If it is a cash like transaction depends on the merchant code that is used by Very's merchant account for the payment. Unless you are lucky and find someone who has done it recently it will be a gamble as to if Very has or hasn't changed their process in the time between that poster and now.

If its not treated as a cash like transaction then it will be a purchase and any rewards for purchases will apply per the T&Cs.

Your best bet is to make a tiny single payment and see how Santander treat it, if its cash like you get the minimum fee and know not to do it again. If it goes through as a purchase you know you can do larger sums fairly safely.

Thanks for the suggestion @DullGreyGuy, I've just tried your suggestion. Very say they accept credit cards on their payment page so I paid £1. I subsequently checked the transaction in the Santander app. The payment is pending but listed as purchase domestic. It looks like it works!

I’ve got a very account and use my credit card to pay all bills to do with that account, I did wonder if it was possible myself but very state you can add a credit or debit card and I’ve never been charged a fee, so it must get treated like a normal transaction rather than a cash withdrawal etc, I also pay other online shopping accounts that allow a credit card to be added and never been charged a fee as of yet with them either so it must be the same.

Like @tomxlisa I also have a very account and always pay via credit card and have never been charged a fee. They have always advertised credit card as a supported method of payment. Similarly also paid a Next credit account the same way. I've got a Co-op Bank credit card though, not Santander. The same credit card even allows me to pay my council tax and earn credit card rewards.

It will count as a purchase, not sure why you was concerned it would be treated as a cash withdrawal.
