Some years ago I was with switching service (Switchcraft) who recommended me to Neo Energy but since their demise I’ve been happy with Octopus. Out of the blue yesterday I received a message from Switchcraft saying they’d found a good deal with Rebel Energy and I’ve already received notice that a direct debit has been set up and indeed an email has also arrived from Octopus  “we’ve been notified by another supplier that you’ll be switching from 31 March”
I’ve contacted Octopus to say I’d not authorised any such switch and to continue as my supplier. Similarly told Rebel to cancel any DD and will be contacting my bank.
Previous recollections of Switchcraft are that they’d put forward suggested alternate suppliers and tariffs, not simply pile straight in and assume it’s a go-ahead from me?

I would suggest digging back through your paperwork with Switchcraft to find out precisely what the deal you signed up to with them was supposed to be. It may well be that you are out of contract in any event and they are just chancing their arm - in which case you should write and point this out. If the deal was open ended however, serve immediate notice on them that you are terminating and that they are not authorised to take any further actions on your behalf.

Never a good idea to sign up to any switching service.  They're unlikely to offer deals from the whole market, only those suppliers who pay them commission, and the cheapest ones often don't pay.  That means you get what's best for them, not what's best for you.
You're also likely to miss some good deals because they'll only conduct reviews from time to time.
Many fixed deals now have hefty exit fees so that complicates the process and can result in nasty surprises.
