NO STRONG VIEWNo, it's yet more profiteering from large companies. They save on paying a person but prices don't come down, and what about when they go wrong (which they do often)?
What happens when you have a query?
It's a huge no for me.0 -
YES, I love itPrefer self scan as you go in supermarkets, no need to unload and repack at checkouts.Reduces time and risk of product damage from repeated handlingSelf scan OK for small shops, not for trolley shops0

YES, I love itBest thing since sliced bread for me, quicker and can check that prices are correct.:laugh:Free at last0

NO, I hate itHoenir said:Fo convenience shopping what's there not to like. Far speedier. There's still cashiers.
Actually, in my Sainsbury's - no there isn't! Last time I went in, not a single staffed checkout was being operated! Bah, humbug!

NO STRONG VIEWI dislike the fact that cashiers lose their jobs. I only use sef scan for a small shop, forced to when there is a long queue at the cashier due to their numbers being severely reduced. Also, have you noticed the self scan is nearer the exit and the cashiers squashed up as far away as possible from the exit, which is significant in a big superstore. They are doing their best to force us to use self scan

NO STRONG VIEWI voted no strong view but only because I believe they have their place alongside staffed checkouts.....If you only have a couple of items and/or you're on your break or just in a hurry then yes but staff should not be sacrificed for shoppers doing it themselves0

NO, I hate itCustomer service seems to have gone out of the window, presumably to deliver a bit more value to the shareholders.0

It's about providing customers with what they want - in my case providing self service tills for a basket of items so I don't have to queue behind somebody with shop for a fortnight.
And allowing me to check the price of each item as it goes through and pack at my leisure. Not at the speed of the assistant.
If I have a problem in Tesco with a self service till, an assistant is there within seconds. Same for Aldi. I'd call that pretty good customer service.2 -
YES, I love itI like it in Tesco because it flags up multi-buy offers on the screen and it gives a running total so we can know our spend versus budget. That latter can be very helpful when we receive the clubcard coupons "£5 off £50 spend" or similar as we can then be sure we don't finish the shop a few pence under the threshold but add an extra tin of beans instead.0

YES, I love itThis morning only 2 open with fair queues. Went through the scan and go checkout with no problems - all stations were occupied when I passed it a couple of minutes earlier though.
Asda is going to put more staff on checkouts after admitting it has reached a limit with self-service tills.
The supermarket said while self-checkouts work well for customers, it wants to invest additional hours into having manned checkouts.
