Renting in Leeds

Options
Hi, me and my boyfriend are moving to Leeds in July. He has a new job there and hopefully i'll be doing my PGCE (teaching qualification) at Leeds uni.

At the moment we live live with my boyfriends parents in our home town near Liverpool.

We don't know the Leeds area at all so can any one give us advice about renting in Leeds, the best areas, the areas to avoid, any good websites about leeds...etc.

His job is in LS16, we would prefer to be less than 30mins away.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Don't go to Harehills or Chapeltown.

Headingley is full of HMO for students and there is (I believe) excellent bus services from there to LS16. Headingley is LS6. Burley and Leeds 4 can be a bit hit and miss.

Seacroft can be really bad, and don't go near East End Park.

Some of Leeds 8 near Roundhay is really, really nice. Some is Harehills and really grim. You need to look at North Leeds. Horsforth may also be a good location.

If you go on (I think) https://www.wymetro.com you will get an overview of the bus routes round Leeds and how easy it is to get from a to b.

    HTH

    Good luck.
    Always another chapter

You could also try gumtree to get an idea of rentals and also leeds.gov.uk if you're wanting general information. The bus service around Leeds is pretty good allround really so it's not difficult to get from/to anywhere. I can't comment specifically about North Leeds as I'm at the other side LS26. You could also try rightmove and reedsrains to get an idea of prices or to suit your budget
  • I just google ls 16 leeds to see whichsuburb it was and it brought up some rental options straight away. I think manning stainton has a good website which lets you search by postcode and i'm sure most of the big estate agents have similar. I think ls 16 is adel/weetwood but also some less nice areas. Depends a lot what you want. I live in LS18 which is not far away and is nice. City centre could be worth a look as well as good for your uni, bars, shops etc and loads of buses out to his work and traffic should not be too bad going against rush hour (if you see what i mean). Loads of city centre flats so rent is quite competitive now.
And if, you know, your history...
