Tesco CC, does a payment reduce the direct debit?

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anybody knows if making a part payment towards the statement balance on a Tesco credit card reduces the direct debit amount of not?

For example, statement balance is £1000 and the full amount id due to be taken on the 1st, if I pay £500 now. Will the DD taken be £1000 or £500?

  • I think it would be better to not make the additional payment and let the DD be collected in the usual way.

I would suggest reading the card terms and conditions - the first line staff aren't always sure. I have done this with a card before, different issuer, who messaged and said the DD would not be reduced but maybe it was because it was close to due date. If paid well in advance it should be fine or just change the DD that month to be minimum and pay the balance manually by the due date.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I know if you make a payment to Barclaycard it will tell you that it will reduce the DD during the process and you then can proceed or cancel the request
Just had a quick look at Tesco site the answer came back as long as the payment is made 3 working days before due date.
Just remember making DC payment isn't instantly cleared.

Thank you, the DD isn't due to be collected until 1st April so there's plenty of time. My statement was generated yesterday and I paid part of it off today then instantly wondered if that was a good idea! So hopefully it'll be reduced by my payment amount.

It's too late for that unfortunately.

Sometimes when making a Large purchase you need to make sure that your have sufficient  credit available so making a early payment is the only way of doing this especially if its a cash back card and your other CC arn't
